About Binbrook United Church

Mission Statement:

As followers of Jesus, we are called to celebrate and participate, through praise and prayer, caring and sharing, learning and fellowship, and to anticipate a dynamic ministry to our community and the world.

Committees

Each of the following committees are comprised of volunteer members of the congregation and in some cases, adherents, who all share their gifts of time and talent to the work and dedication of the church.

Session (Elders)

Session members meet at least 4 times per year and as required for special circumstances.  They assist with the preparation of Holy Communion, Baptisms and Confirmations, and also act as a liaison to an assigned list of members and adherents of the congregation to provide updates and assist in maintaining a strong sense of community within the church.

Stewards

A very active and willing group of volunteers, Stewards care for the finances of the Community of Faith, and at Binbrook, are invaluable in maintaining the physical well-being of the church building and structures.

Ministry & Personnel

A Committee of 4 members, the Ministry and Personnel Committee is the only mandatory committee of the governing body of a congregation or pastoral charge.  This committee does not have authority for decision-making with regard to issues relating to status, conditions of employment or employee compensation, but does make recommendations to the governing body of the church.

M&P schedules regular consultations and job reviews with both Ministry and Staff, reviewing job descriptions, policies and performance, remuneration, vacation schedules, and any addresses any questions or concerns of the individual.  Meeting quarterly or more frequently, this Committee demands a high level of confidentiality.

Worship Committee

Members of Worship Committee meet regularly with the Minister, Clerk of Session and often the Music Ministry team in preparing Sunday services as well as the special services based on the United Church Lectionary. Special Worship Services include Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Church Anniversary, Thanksgiving, Remembrance Day, Advent.

Communications Team

Being environmentally friendly, the Communications Team utilizes Powerpoint delivery for the Sunday Order of Service, which has significantly reduced the amount of paper used weekly. A few copies are printed for those requesting it, and a copy of Upcoming Announcements is also printed for a take home “At-A-Glance” reference.

The members of this team share the duties of operating the Powerpoint and video and sound systems and are greatly appreciated.

Website Team

A sub-committee of Communications, the current website team has been working on this re-design of the website incorporating up-to-date features and information, such as a current calendar of events.

The gallery will always be ready to incorporate new pictures in the life of the church and community, so please be sure to forward them.

Trustees

The Board of Trustees is a financial group caring for all Congregational property, meaning all property and assets owned by the congregation, including land, buildings, funds, investments, and any other kind of property.

Green Thumbs Committee

A great deal of time and care is provided by the members of this group who care for the outside gardens which beautify the landscape.  From propagating, planting, watering, and weeding, this is a true labour of love.  Please enjoy the beauty of these gardens maintained for your enjoyment and take a moment to sit on the bench and reflect in the “Peace Garden” out front.

Decorating Committee

Another group of wonderful volunteers who enhance both the interior and exterior decor of the church to reflect the Seasons in the life of the church. They are truly talented, and their teamwork and gift of decorating beautify the Sanctuary and all aspects of the church.
