Case for Kids Walk

Annually on a Sunday in June, hundreds of people gather at Bayfront Park for a fun, family-friendly walk, run, and community celebration in support of children, youth, and families in our community.

Every step taken help Wesley’s Children and Youth programs in Hamilton, Halton, and Brantford provide vital support for those who need it most.  In the past, kind hearts and walkers from Binbrook United Church have raised hundreds of dollars in donations to help ease child poverty in Hamilton.

This year's Case for Kids Walk takes place on Sunday, June 7.

Helping Hands for the YMCA

Donations that are gratefully received and forwarded on to the men's "Y" program include coffee, sugar and hot chocolate, divided up into small containers so many recipients can enjoy it.

We always appreciate donations of small, clean spice jars to put coffee in, and sandwich-size baggies for the sugar donations. This greatly assists with the distribution of the items to share among more recipients.

Many thanks to the helping hands from Binbrook United Church who volunteer their time in preparing these donations.

Back to School Backpacks

Every summer, donations of backpacks and school supplies are gathered and assembled by volunteers for delivery to Wesley Center.  Assisting students who are unable to obtain their necessary school supplies is an amazing way to help them achieve confidence and see them off to a great start of another school year.

“Socks for Dogs”

A catchy name for a special event hosted at the Sunday Service mid-January!  On this special Sunday, worshipers donate new socks (or other necessary items) for the homeless and are treated to a hotdog for lunch following the service in exchange.  This very worthwhile event has collected in excess of 50 dozen pair of socks, gloves, scarves etc. and are deeply appreciated by those who are receiving this gift of warmth as they are often exposed to the cold elements of winter.

Purses for Margaret

This annual event run in conjunction with the Presbyterian church ladies, fill new or gently used donated purses with personal and hygiene related necessities collected by the congregations and community, and are delivered to the women’s shelter.  A delicious pot-luck lunch follows this amazing activity.

For 2025, the generosity of our community filled 120 purses that were gratefully received and acknowledged by the Good Shepherd Centre.

Used Eyeglasses Donations/MMI

Used eyeglasses and sunglasses (even non-prescription sunglasses) are collected and donated to MMI (Medical Ministry International.)  Teams of Christian missionaries (including medical professionals and volunteers) collect, categorize and deliver the used eyewear to countries around the world who in most cases, have never had any form of vision care.  Vision care is just one of the many health care services provided by MMI.

Knittin’ Tree aka “Mitten Tree”

Set up through Advent, the tree is decorated with gifts, often home-made of scarves, mittens, hats and warm items for all ages and genders.  These gifts of warmth are then donated to Inasmuch House, a home for abused women and children.

Wesley Centre

Wesley is a long-standing non-profit helping community members in Hamilton, Halton and Brantford with housing, family and newcomer support, employment services and food. They work to reduce poverty and build more inclusive communities. Wesley Centre is the 2025 Hamilton Non-Profit Changemaker Winner.

Binbrook United Church is proud to have been recognized by Wesley for providing a great deal of support in 2025.
